Providing First Aid When Dogs Are Injured
If you discover an injured dog – whether due to an accident, a bite wound, or another acute situation – quick but careful action is required. First, try to approach the animal calmly and cautiously without causing additional stress. Injured animals, even normally friendly dogs, may react aggressively due to pain. If possible, secure the dog with a leash and ensure your own safety.
For urgent emergencies:
📞 IMPORTANT: If an injured dog poses a danger in traffic – for example, if the dog is lying on the road or running into traffic – please call the police immediately using the emergency number 110.
If you find a dying or seriously injured animal and urgent help is needed, do not hesitate: The police can help contact the responsible on-call veterinarian or animal rescue service.
